Day 1 of 5 Paris Men's Fashion Week
Vibe: The Sophistication of Military.
Ever since Valentino presented its first runway show back in fall 2012, there were pieces here and there that showed the powerful weapon the Valentino man could become. Recently, its spring 2013 military collection has been selling like hot pancakes with their camouflage sneakers being one of the most demanding shoes of the season. Fall 2013 became one of the most PERFECT collections in menswear that depicted Valentino's sartorial couture craftsmanship so beautifully. And for its new spring 2014 men's collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli felt it was adequate to make its militant bespoke designs an official signature of the Valentino man.
The show began with a series of suits and shirt jackets beautifully split into various shades of denim that felt invigoratingly new to the brand. One blue denim parka was a stand innovation for the duo; so light and tailored. Others pieces noteworthy were their second olive and navy numbers that included a suit, coat, and parka as well. What were worth an investment were their leather shirt jackets - in burgundy, and olive - that looked so appealing with their black etched tape lining around one pocket, and epaulets that described the militant mood of the collection. Other illusional black leather tape linings followed in tan, electric blue, gray, navy, and camouflage print jackets and sweaters.
Trousers, which at far appeared to be only camouflage prints, when viewed closed enough were actually faded prints of daisies infused with its military design. Other printed trousers paired with sharp white t-shirts looked somewhat too casual (rebellious) for the Valentino man, but were intriguing to watch a new style emerge. Formalwear was by far much more of a synthesis of bespoke than a seasonal men's collection. In other words an impeccable high luxury "couture" triumph for Chiuri and Piccioli.
Vibe: Safety Pins and Urban Raincoats.
Balenciaga is still a developing brand that is perhaps less successful in its menswear division than its womenswear collections. Alexander Wang has been taking the brand in a very different route. Since been appointed creative director, he's developed a signature symbol for the house: the maillon, which is a thicker metal that resembles a safety pin. They were obvious in suits and pants, which created a sort of punk-y style to the looks. Tailoring wasn't so appreciable. He also included two dark-striped raincoats which made it confusing to understand the inspiration behind this collection. There were in fact new elements in the collection that were of Wang's influence: sleek leather black boots, knitwear, and pleasing shorts that were cut just above the knee. Wang has in fact established a good reputation to the Balenciaga woman, but there is still more work to be done in its menswear line.
Vibe: The Freedom of Simons.
Raf Simons is a show that will never leave you disappointed. Simons keenly knows how to leave you with doubt if this is what menswear will look like in the future? He uses the future to his advantage to deliver a show with high-fashion structure in fabric, design, and battle against severe masculinity. That was the shocking opening for his new spring 2014 men's collection. The first model came out in a full one-piece black outfit that resembled a shorter version of an adult onesie.
Those are Simons' influence, so NEW that a specific name for this designs didn't come to mind. The Simons shirt romper? Simons' can be better known for his fine taste in tailoring, but in this collection everything was about "freedom." His suits were more relaxed, but his pants much more skinnier to give it a special mood with those innovative sneakers. T-shirts were "the new shape of comfort," as one shirt implied. Other florescent embroidered shirts declared why Simons' is one of the best in menswear t-shirts.
There was a variety of compulsive pieces to choose from in this collection. It may just have to be viewed with a separate eye for each design. Raf Simons' menswear collection is one of the most anticipated shows in Paris Men's Fashion Week due to his unique ideas that are only available at his presentation. He introduced us to cheetah prints, floral prints, abstract art, shorts spliced deep in the sides, and much more graphical techniques. At this point of his career he should be proud of himself to say I made that men's shirt romper first. It may take time though for most men to get comfortable in a new type of skin.
The Camouflage Trend Valentino Began

From top to bottom: Valentino camouflage leather slip-on sneakers ($720) // Valentino suede studded sneakers ($795) |
Many menswear designers have brought back the military trend on the map, but more than design, it is a specific print that has made a huge hit this spring for mens fashionthe camouflage print. And one brand in particular that has made this print the must have of the season is the fashion powerhouse, Valentino.
I would be shocked if records would show that Valentino's spring 2013 collection has not done well in its accessories unit, because Ive lost the count of how many times Ive seen the studded colored heels or camouflage sneakers on various streetstyle blog. Theyve become a big sensation in the fashion world for every fashion freak. Basically, if you dont have any of these pairs already then you must.I dont know.
A big trend Ive seen specifically with these mens Valentino sneakers has been with suits. There is something about these sneakers that makes them unique. It may be because of the colored suede and mesh details, and the studs at the back, which upgrade them from your average pair of Nike sneakers? The sole fact here is if youre willing to pay around $795 for a simple pair of sneakers? I find them trending, but with the price retail I may have to consider it, as for Im not much of a sneaker fan after all.
What do you think about these sneakers?
StreetStyle Shoe Trends - Dior vs. Valentino

Dior vs. Valentino - Two shoes that have caught the attention of many fashion freaks this season |
If you happen to be a streetstyle admirer, you probably have noticed some very trending shoes women are wearing right now.
Christian Dior's and Valentino's Spring 2013 shoe collection have been a mega hit on the streets and online fashion blogs over the past few months. I have lost the count of how many times I've seen both of these styles shot in photographs. Too much views is difficult not to remember the details even in your dreams.
Personally, I believe these shoes are one of the best of the season. Raf Simons first spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection for Dior seems to be going pretty great for the brand. Valentino, of course, can never disappoint you - always modern classical.
The main question here is if you had the chance to choose between one of these pair of shoes - only one - which would you rather go for? Is it tough?
Best Dressed List at The Critic's Choice Awards 2013 Ceremony

There were some who quite didn't know what they were doing, and there were others who knew their secret weapon. From patterns, colors, and deep v-neck cuts, there were lots to talk about. Below we give you some of the women (stars) who brightened the red carpet.
Taylor Swift struck us with this classic white dress, which couldn't get any sexier. Ralph Lauren should be proud of this country girl.
Brittany Snow showcased her playful version (or sensual side) with this bright yellow dress. Wanna play?
Chloe Moretz is still a 15 year old teenage girl for those of you who have forgotten. It's quite astonishing to see a girl like her already taking risks in what she wears. Some would say it's too much for a teenager to be wearing Chanel Couture at such a young age. That is simply called jealousy you people. This vivid applique dress sets another "It girl" we should seek to start following.
Heidi Klum is still teaching us her Victoria Secret spice that lives within her. Slits and cuts were the perfect lessons taught from her.
We didn't know in what list to set Jennifer Lawrence. At first we stared at her and believed she looked stunning, but then we had our doubts. It kept going back and forth. We'll just leave her here for now. One thing we knew for sure was that this lady seems to have had a great status for wearing a Couture piece.
Paris Hilton should maybe take some notes on wearing prints from this British lady. For some of you who may not know, this dress was apparently altered for her in a shorter version. The original dress should be inches longer than what Watson is wearing here. It seems Watson might enjoy showing some legs.
Rachael Leigh Cook chose to wear a simple silhouetted dress for the red carpet. The silver necklace she paired it with was what put her as one of the best dressed. Who knew an accessory could be so powerful?
Julianne Hough owned this number. Couture definitely sat well on her.
Marion Cotillard is a woman of many dresses who one more time was welcomes to the best dressed women.

The Peoples Choice Awards red carpet yesterday was full of statement trenders and wellhorrible mistakes. As usual, not everyone is pleased as what celebrities wear when walking a red carpet. Theres always got to be that person who really didnt make it to the best dressed list. Below, we give you some of the stars who didnt shine at all. Poor Them.
Ellen Pompeo in Lanvin |

Jennifer Aniston in Dior |
Jennifer Aniston always manages to pull of a good look. This time she seemed to have forgotten about her curves. We adore Dior, but the dress simply made her look heavier than what she is. Or is she hiding something? Hmm.

Katy Perry in Valentino Fall/Winter 2012 |
Katy Perry is known for her outgoing personality that she portrays in the red carpets in stunning body-hugging silhouettes. We know she has the perfect body to rock any outfit, but this particular look seemed very restrained. It felt more of as we were meeting with her at a casual lunch conference than an awards night. The dress was elegant no doubt, her hair nicely done, but there was something missing. What happened Katy?

Lea Michele in Elie Saab |
It seems Lea Michele is your average outgoing girl who feels young and energetic. This pink ensemble from Elie Saab didnt portray that girl many of us are in love with. With all respect, pink was not your color. Try better next time please, and again, we do love you.

Emilio Pucci Spring/Summer 2013 |
Sheer is one of the most worn fabrics around our city in the summer, but as clear and transparent as the runway, we yet to seek for one. Designers proved how naughty sheer can become if used correctly. Sheer was all about seduction, authority, and femininity for the spring collections. As you may have remembered from our past posts, spring/summer 2013 should be all about seduction. Emilio Pucci, an Italian house known for prints, presented various designs of sheer. Pants, dresses, and tops were all present in this collection. Prints, which were what we expected, were seen very rarely, as Peter Dundas decided to take an unusual route like other designers. The collection was not as bad as we thought it may have been. Franciso Costa at Calvin Klein gave us one of the most sexual collections the brand had presented. Each dress brought attention at the bust with kinky designs. The play of construction and lengths were the main elements. Stella McCartneys athletic dresses could not have been left behind as well. Her dresses marked attitude and style. Valentinos black sheer sleeve and lace embroidered dress below was a remarkable treasure we couldnt let go of. Akris presented a collection that should be in the minds of several street style ladies preparing for next months fashion shows. If anyone wanted to play with sheer, Akris took the crown in their ninety-one piece collection. We have a question. Would you be willing to wear an item from the Akris spring/summer 2013 collection?
